Worms is a fun turn based action/strategy game. A number of teams of worms battle it out using a variety of weaponry.
Each player can use one worm per round and the goal is to inflict as much damage on the opponent as possible. There are lots of fun weapons to choose from, and the arsenal can be replenished and stocked up thanks to new shipments.
Worms is a single player or multi-player game; up to 4 players.
In single player mode there are four game modes to choose from:
• Fast game
• Training
• Body Count
• Challenge
If you’re in the mood to play a round without much ado, opt for the fast game mode in which all you need do is pick a level of difficulty and you’re good to go.
In training mode two equally strong teams play against each other, but one of the teams does not defend itself, meaning you can practice until you feel confident enough to begin a round for real.
In body count one worm battles it out against a number of other worms, and each time you manage to kill an enemy worm you will have to defeat a new worm with 10 more life points. This means the game becomes increasingly difficult and challenging.
And to top it all off, there's the option to master challenges, in which you will have to beat all the worms from the other time.
There are six landscapes and four teams to choose from, and you can even build you own team. The landscapes are all different from one another, so that there's never a dull moment with Worms.
Bottom line:
Worms is fun, it’s action-packed but it also makes you think a bit and thanks to the five game modes it promises not to get boring all too quickly. In other words, it’s just as much fun as it was back in the day.
Controls are nice and simple. Select on of 26 weapons; one weapon can be selected any number of times.
Find out how to use each weapon in the menu. In most cases you will be able to shoot in a circle around you. The longer you press the button to fire a weapon the further the bullet will go. Mind the direction and force of the wind (look for details in the top left corner).
Team members can be moved about, too. Long press the right side of the display in order to get a worm to wiggle its way to the right; the same thing goes to get it to go to the left. Double click and the worm does a jump—great for earning points fast.
There’s a zoom in/out function for the camera and the camera can be moved by swiping two fingers across the screen.
After playing one or two rounds you will have gotten he hang of controls, they’re really not very complicated.
The Worms graphics are great: very worm-style-y, which is to say quite cartoon-y.
Worms is very solid and hasn’t crashed or lagged once and I’ve been playing it daily for just over a week now.
Worms costs EUR1,54 which is a fair enough price. The game is lots of fun and the different game modes help make it worthwhile.
