InfiniteGAG (9GAG) – Something Like A Phenomenon
Tested version: 0.2.1 alpha
Latest version: 1.3.5
Requires Android: from 2.2
Summary
If ever a phenomenon took the world by storm, it's memes. Their genesis lies somewhere in the darkest corner of the internet, but bit by bit they crept into a more mainstream arena.
9GAG has become fairly popular (warning: not work place appropriate): the portal lets users vote on pics, the best of which wind up on the Vote Page, Trending Page or even Hot Page.
If you're a 9GAG fan or have always been curious to check it out, take a look at InfiniteGAG (9GAG), the app for Android.
Features & Use
Test device: Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Android version: 4.0.4
Root: Yes
Mods: CyanogenMod
I'd first like to mention that the type of humour that's predominant in this application won't be everyone's cup of tea.
9GAG has a mobile website, but in contrast to the normal website the mobile version doesn't come with the infinity scrolling option. Furthermore, for some odd reason the entire website is loaded, rather than just the pictures, which means that way too much data is transmitted and loading times are unnecessarily long.
Try InfiniteGAG (9GAG) if you're not a fan of the mobile website.
Once the app has been started, select Hot, Trending or Vote. All of the latest photos will then be downloaded. You can scroll around as much as you'd like, the app just keeps loading pics.
Images can be enlarged, shared via Twitter, Facebook, etc., saved, accessed via 9GAG.com and rated (though in order to rate or comment on a pic you must be logged in.)
That's about all there is to say about InfiniteGAG (9GAG). There are no settings options and no safe mode to block offensive photos.
Bottom line:
InfiniteGAG (9GAG) is a fun little app for anyone who enjoys 9GAG. The app is very comfortable and easy to use (much more so than the mobile website) and image load very quickly.
Screen & Controls
InfiniteGAG (9GAG) comes with a rather pragmatic kind of aesthetic and design. The app is hence easy to use and navigate. The msot important functions are located right on the display and scrolling through the app ad infinitum is very comfortable (much more so than the mobile website).
Speed & Stability
InfiniteGAG (9GAG) loads photos fairly quickly (faster than when loading via the browser), depending, of course, on how good the internet connection is.
The app is also nice and stable, but there were a few – very rare – issues with uploading the images.
