Summary

I'd been perusing the market for a remote service for Spotify for a while, and while the Play Store is abuzz with such applications, Remoteless (for Spotify) is the first I've come across that also supports Mac OS X (as well as Windows, natch). Read on for more details.

Features & Use

Android version: 4.0.4

Mods: CyanogenMod

Music lovers will know that Spotify is a great music client that boasts an enormous catalogue of music. We rather like the new beta version for Android, but it's missing a crucial feature: remote control via Mac or PC.

If there's something that really gets to me it's when the wrong song is playing at the wrong moment, and when I'm sitting at my desk working on my computer, the last thing I want to do is have to get up each time I'm not in the mood to listen to whatever track happens to be playing.

This is where Remoteless (for Spotify) comes in. Once I'd installed the app my Mac immediately popped up in its server.
The connection is quickly established and even the cover of the current track is displayed, as are all of the key controls elements. Hit the cover for more options related to playback (play/pause; skip song; go back; volume; etc.).
The track that's being played at the moment can be shared and there's a shuffle option, as well as a repeat button.

I would've been perfectly satisfied with these key functions, but the app has more to offer. For instance, there's an option for browsing the music library. Accessing one's own playlists is possible, though local files aren't displayed, which is a bit of a bummer.
There's also a convenient search function, allowing users to search for artists, tracks or albums.

Bottom line:

Remoteless (for Spotify)
is the best remote control for Spotify I know of, and I would say that it's a must-have for Spotify users.

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

The app's controls are simple enough, even for Android users who aren't super techie. That said, I'm not wild about the app's UI. If there's one thing that rubs me the wrong way it's inconsistency in an app's design. In the case of Remoteless (for Spotify) the menu elements leave a lot to be desired.

Speed & Stability

Section rating:

Remoteless (for Spotify) performs very solidly.

Price/Performance Ratio

Remoteless (for Spotify) can be downloaded for EUR 1,99 from the Play Store.

No facebook share I purchased due to the ability to share what you're playing on Facebook.. But this facility doesn't work. Otherwise a good application.

Looks great doesn't work Connects to helper fine, lists playlists but doesn't allow control from device. Nice waste of 99p

No Queue!?! Connection was straightforward enough, but not having the option to add a song to the queue is a major flaw.

Almost perfect As a previous commenter says, if the playlists were sorted as in Spotify and it allowed browsing of starred songs and the play queue, it would be perfect. Well worth the price though - now I can control my music when I'm in the kitchen cooking without having to worry about getting food all over my computer!

incredible I use spotify on a Mac Mini that I run without a monitor or keyboard. This app is *so* much more convenient than using a remote desktop client for playing music. With a couple more features, I would easily pay $5 or $10 for this app. The most important feature for me is a button to browse the other tracks on the currently playing album and a button to browse the other albums of the currently playing artist. Ideally, I would also like to be able to jump to the relevant album/track listing for any given song in the playlist browser (perhaps a long press could bring up a menu).

Great app! So much better than what was previously available! Great price too :) Works as advertised, that is, very good. A minor annoyance is the sorting of the playlists; it only sorts alphabetically, and doesn't respect the order I have in Spotify. I'm also missing the "built in" playlists, that is, starred songs and play queue. Especially being able to view the play queue.

Good Been waiting a very long time for this app and its finally arrived.. I have had some fc's with it so far..but the app is quick enough to load so its not the biggest of issues... for 99p you can't really go wrong :-) will update to 5* after the fc's stop... phone = galaxy s2 cm9
