Summary

'When I was young I used to think that money was the most important thing in life. Now that I am old, I know it is.'  Oscar Wilde

What's with the Oscar Wilde quote, you ask? Well, while we're not going to get into a discussion about what the most important thing in life is, there's no denying that keeping a tab on your finances is a useful thing.

With this in mind, we've tested Money Tab for you. Find out whether it's worth your money in today's review.

Features & Use

Money Tab is the kind of app I love: i.e. simple design, useful functionality. It starts off very nicely with a great intro and explanations on how to regulate the settings. Setting up hence doesn't take very long; in fact, it's actually fun to do, seeing as the developers have left little funny comments here and there. A nice touch.
The next step is to enter your own data in the available categories. The options here are broad: clothes, gadgets, flowers, ... and if ever you don't find what you're looking for (if, say, you happen to be a shoelace collector or passionate aquarium visitor), you can always enter your own categories.

Transactions are entered manually, and there's a time frame option to keep a better overview of when you spent what. If you tend to do something often (going to the baker's, parking fees, etc.), why not add a shortcut to make things easier?

Seeing how much you've spent in a given category or in all is also hassle-free. A monthly statistics tell all, as does a finance history. The history is a no-brainer if you've only got a few entries, but may be a bit muddled if you're a very enthusiastic Money Tab user.

I would like to see an option for selecting specific periods within the monthly statistic, rather than seeing the whole four week period. Also, tags aren't available in the history view, and , as mentioned, it can get a bit confusing when you've got lots of entries.
My biggest complaint would be that it isn't possible to set up more than one account. This is annoying for users with expense accounts or who wish to list private and business expenses separately. A cloud service isn't integrated either, and there's no budget limit (maybe with an alarm?) or starting off sum.

Bottom line:

Money Tab is very promising and we love how easy it is to use. It could become a very useful tool to have around, but for now there's still room for improvement. Still, we would recommend the application to users who are looking for a basic, straight-forward finance manager.

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

Absolutely no complaints in this category: Money Tab comes with a simple and intuitive design that makes using the features easy. The app is also adapted for Android ICS, meaning there's no annoying menu bar on the HTC One X.

Speed & Stability

Section rating:

Money Tab performs smoothly on newer generation devices such as the HTC Sensation or HTC One X. We also tested it on the Samsung Galaxy Gio and HTC Desire and found that it lags sometime, especially when selecting the date.

Conclusion: runs well on new devices but not optimally on older one.

Price/Performance Ratio

Section rating:

Money Tab is available for EUR 0,84 from the AndroidPIT App Center.

Good App, No Tutorial and Weird Font Size This is a good app for managing personal finances but a lack of any form of help or tutorial hurts it. On my phone, the icons/text are jarringly large. Better use of space would help a lot

Pretty good Im giving it 5 stars because its very simple and easy to use, and cheap with no ads. but there are some minor improvements ahead. as some people have said a nice widget would be a bonus. and i find you cant edit the recurring payments you have. also with that, recurring every 1 week or month says in the app 'every 1 weeks/months' etc so bad grammar for singular recurring. good app though:)

Excellent Simpler to use than most of the other expense report apps I have used. Love the fact that you are not slowed down swapping to the device keyboard but just quickly use the inbuilt buttons quick use categories also make things quicker

Love it Beautiful and functional

Great, but a bit disappointing I love the app. It looks great, works well and keeps track of my money. What really annoys me is that I have to spend HOURS setting up all the different categories for all of my accounts! That's a major hassle!

Perfect but no widget Since purchase they have added further analytics like graphs and quarterly, weekly breakdown etc. Excellent. All it needs now is a nice widget. One which can be customised for different expense and income inputs making it faster to use. Or one with a daily spend or budget tracker to help stop overspending by setting targets. Maybe as a purchasable add on I'd pay a quid for an epic widget with a few extra features.

Easy to use One of the best app to keep track of your money. What I think is missing is the ability to sort expenses by category. This way, you could see when was the lest time you spent money for specific things like gas, etc. I would also like to see some new features like Pie Charts, Total Expenses per Category in Statistics.

No refund Shame on you, they refused what they ad... No refund... An app not practical at all.. no week basis ... No budget....

Easy to use and now more productive Highly customizable with Simple and easy to use interface. After new update it becomes more productive. New statistical views allows you to track your incomes and expenses over a given period of time with new and useful charts. It would be great if there were some option to view transaction on a particular date. But overall Highly recommended Application.

Beautiful looking... Maybe it's just me but I find the layout confusing. Not sure where to find things. As someone else said, recurring bill of an unknown amount would be good. Also a clearly labelled option to add a starting balance. Also a current balance that takes into account of all future outgoings. Currently I have to set everything to go out on the 1st of each month in order to know how much I have left to spend. Fine if you have plenty of disposable income, not so on a tight budget!

Great, easy to use app I tried a few free apps but they were all too busy and too in-depth for what I was after. This app is easy to use and has a nice UI. Would like to see a budget/upcoming one-off expenses function... I think I found a flaw when I tried to work around this... I added a couple of transactions for future dates and they show in the stats but not in the history - means I can't edit them until that date rolls around! Whoops. Also as others have mentioned it would be more helpful to be able to create categories on the fly and that are used over several accounts instead of inputting for each account. Will update the rating later if any updates make it more workable for me :)

Nice UI, nicer usability Great interface and ease of use. Please provide a way to add a recurring expense for which the amount is unknown in advance (eg: phone/electricity bills, etc)

Excellent. Misses a widget. Beautiful UI and very well thought out design. I absolutely love this app :) It makes my daily accounting very easy. I appreciate the cloud sync feature as well. I'd give it 5 stars if there's a home screen widget for quick input.

Needs a lot of work I thought it would come with some pre-made categories. Nope, gotta input those manually, per Account. You also can't take pics of your receipts. The fake-holo interface is kinda annoying too. But the app is functional, it does keep track of stuff, so there's that.
