Soccer Statistics – A World of Numbers
Tested version: 1.9
Latest version: 2.03
Requires Android: from 1.6
Summary
The European Football Championship is fast approaching and we are giddy with anticipation over here at AndroidPIT. We can't wait to head to the pubs together, guzzle away pints of beer and see our respective teams take the trophy (we're an international crew, and of course we're all convinced our own team will win).
But what's an avid football fan to when not glued to the screen or – you lucky sons of so-and-so – watching a game live in the stadium? The answer: more football, of course. Football for Android! Today's featured app Soccer Statistics provides infos on football leagues as well as stats. Read on for more details!
Please note: by 'football' we are referring to soccer / European football.
Features & Use
Soccer Statistics is bursting at the seams with information, football fanatics will be happy to hear.
There are three tabs to play around with. Settings lets you make a few subtle changes to the leagues display, such as changes to your favourite league. There's no option to activate and audio notification for when a goal is scored, unfortunately.
The overall focus seems to be on general information. Hit the 'Match' tab provides users with a ton of listings in alphabetical order for the next 24-48 hours.
You can also follow the European Championship via statistics. Information on individual games is also available under the 'Leagues' tab.
The app's user friendliness and functionality leaves something to be desired. First of all, it isn't possible to list several favourite leagues. Also, you need to go via a clumsy tab to switch leagues—like, hello, what about shortcuts?!
I found what I consider to be vital lists to be missing: goalie lists, score lists, yellow card lists, etc.
Furthermore, we find the detailed views of individual matches to be a bit of a disappointment, seeing as relevant infos on goalies, changes, cards, assists and line up aren't listed. Granted, I'm a football nut, but I don't think I'm the only one who wants to see this sort of information in a football statistics app.
That said, other statistics such as chart positions, goals, etc. are listed.
Bottom line:
Soccer Statistics relays a lot of information and is sure to be a hit amongst people who enjoy statistics. However, a few key infos are missing, and I'm guessing most football enthusiasts will agree that details regarding goalies, a fair-play table, score lists, carded players, etc. are of interest. I would also love to see an integrated live ticker and goal notification.
Screen & Controls
Overall, Soccer Statistics strikes us as somewhat old fashioned when it comes to graphics. Feels like the early days of Android: there's no swiping from one tab to the next and the app doesn't fit in with the Android 4.0 design.
The app setup isn't the most logical I've ever come across. For instance, one might expect to be able to retrace one's steps when in the leagues category and pressing the back button. Instead what happens is that you're ejected from the app and have to re-access it via the app drawer.
Speed & Stability
Soccer Statistics run very well throughout our test phase. No problems whatsoever to report.
Price/Performance Ratio
Soccer Statistics displays ad banners and is available for free from both the App Center and Google Play.
