Amazing Alex – Riding on the wings of Angry Birds
Tested version: 1.0.1
Latest version: 1.0.4
Requires Android: from 2.1
We've fallen for Amazing Alex, he's an adorable guy. Rovio Studios came up with this little cutie, and in case that name sounds familiar it's because it is—they're the ones who created Angry Birds, a little game you may very well have heard of.
Having come out with an amazingly successful app such as Angry Birds has its downsides too, in the sense that users will have extremely expectations of anything the devs come out with. But Alex has proven himself worthy. More details about this fun game in today's review.
Features & Use
Test device: Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100G)
Android version: 2.3.6
Runs as of: 2.1
There have (so far) been four incarnations of Angry Birds, and the developers seem to have been itching to come up with a new concept entirely.
Or rather, a new setting, as there are quite a few parallels that can be drawn between Angry Birds and Amazing Alex.
That said, Amazing Alex is a game in its own right in which the goal is get a chain reaction going in order to complete each level successfully.
35 objects in 100 worlds are up for grabs and have to be linked to the chain. Turning the objects in the correct way is of great importance, so bear this in mind all you butter fingers out there!
The objective is to get an object from A to B, which is where the chain reaction comes in to play.
Don't let the first few levels fool you into thinking this is a simple kids' game, it is actually challenging. In fact, later levels may make major feelings of frustration well up in some of you.
Amazing Alex is a fun mix of Angry Birds, Apparatus and Crazy Machines, and thanks to its famous older brother it has already been downloaded a whole bunch of times.
But Alex has a lot to be said about him that unrelated to Angry Birds: the game is fun, its design is cute and, perhaps most importantly, it has that “I'm hooked!” factor.
Screen & Controls
Amazing Alex is set up in a user friendly manner: it's easy to suss out and navigate.
The only small critique one might have is that animations aren't always ultra smooth when it comes to turning certain objects.
Speed & Stability
The app runs very smoothly on many devices. Amazing Alex didn't crash at all.
Amazing Alex costs EUR 0.81 and is available from Google Play. Check out the free version if you're not sure about it being your cup of tea. The HD version – a good option for tablet users – is available for EUR 2.45.
I find the price to be fair, but there has been a fair deal of controversy surrounding this app as some other critics have found fault in the fact that the game is a conglomerate of sorts of other, already existing games, but I say: get your inspiration from wherever you can!
