Summary
Everyone loves Pictionary, right? Even those whose attempt at drawing hearts look more like upside down rear-ends.
Paint for Friends is a Pictionary-esque type app and brings this well loved game to Android smartphones. Find out all the details in our review after the jump.
Features & Use
Test device: Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1
Start up Paint for Friends and sign in using your email address or Facebook account, the latter bringing with it the advantage that you can play with your Facebook friends.
Check out current games and see whose turn it is in the game's main menu. You can also start a new game or access the shop.
Pick one of five options to draw. Depending on how tricky or easy your option is you will receive a certain amount of points. Your opponent has to then try and guess what you have drawn, and whilst they are guessing points are dropping like flies for both parties involved. It's therefor in everyone's best interest to try and draw as accurately as possible and guess what a drawing represents as quickly as possible.
Once you've raked in a sufficient amount of points you may purchase a new word pack from the shop. For instance, one word pack costs 30 stars, and one star is worth 2 000 points, meaning you need all of 60 000 points to buy a word pack.
Bottom line:
Paint for Friends is a great pass time for people who love society games and drawing. The app is well made overall, but the downside is that it takes a lot of time and devotion to the game before you will be able to afford a new word pack. This means you have to keep playing the stock pack of words, which can become a bit dull.
Screen & Controls
Controls are very simple and the Paint for Friends design is fine, too. The ads can sometimes put a bit of a damper on the overall optic effect of the app.
Speed & Stability
Paint for Friends did not exactly zip along on the Galaxy Nexus and it skipped a beat here and there. It is, however, very stabile.
Price/Performance Ratio
Paint for Friends is available for free (but with ads) from Google Play. I must say that the ads got to be a bit too much (especially the popups), but at least drawing and guessing are ad-free zones.
