Summary

If you love food, preparing and sharing meals with family and friends or simply cooking yourself a lovely meal, you will appreciate the value of well made cook books – and if you can't access a real-life cook book you will appreciate at least being able to use your favourite recipes.

My CookBook allows you to save and manage recipes to your Android device and effectively provides a savvy little kitchen assistant that's just a few clicks away. More details below.

Features & Use

Section rating:

Test device: Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100)
Android version: 4.0.3
Root: No
As of: Android 1.6

When you first start up My CookBook you will note that the the app does not yet contain any recipes. In order to add recipes you may select one of the following options: add a recipe manually or do a Google search for already existing recipes which you can then import. We found importing recipes to work well throughout our test run.

Once you've added a good number of recipes you will no doubt be looking to organise them in a way that makes them easy to navigate. For this you can use the register that allows you to select various categories to file recipes into. There are also a text search and Google speech recognition features that make finding recipes child's play.

In order to purchase all of the ingredients called for in your recipes, the app has an integrated shopping list feature.

When it comes to cooking, you can opt to have the recipes read out to you, step by step. And if you're hands are all covered in cooking stuff, there's a great little option in which you wave your hand over the display to get to the next step in a recipe.
The audio quality is satisfactory, but nothing to write home about. In fact, I found myself really having to concentrate on what the thing was telling me to do in order to avoid having to touch the screen.

Finally, you can select different designs if you want to spice up the app's look, and you can opt to move recipe backups to dropbox.

Bottom line:

My CookBook is a fun app for hobby cooks and food lovers who are on the go a lot and always want to have their favourite recipes with them. The app is simple enough to use and makes a great kitchen assistant.

Hey guys,

Great to hear from you!

marialaura -- I agree, it's great to see apps that come in lots of languages so as not to exclude non-English speakers.

red -- Happy to hear that a fellow food aficionado is in the house!

Useless Searches very few sites. Even when I added a site in the optional site search it did not search there. When I try using the URL import it says there is an internet connection problem - there wasn't and it says it every time.

Best I've tried There is even a "share" option on some webpages that will save the recipe to your cook book.

Well worth keeping. This Cookbook app is very handy for anyone who cooks and wants to have their recipes handy. Try the free version, I'm not sure how the premium version is, but it could easily be worth the few dollars. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this app.

Great concept I love how easy it its to search for and import recipes. HOWEVER, after looking at and importing a recipe, there is no wary to get back to the list. When i hit the back button, it takes me back to the blank search page, i have to search all over again, and find my place from the beginning.

75% 'Uncompatible' format? So, I JUST installed this app- 4 out of 6 recipes I tried to save failed as 'not compatible'.... guess I'm better off sticking with 'MyPocket'...

Make your own cookbook Wanted to transfer our hand written recipes online and this provides a very nice interface to write. Once its written you can actually listen to it! The search function is also ok and I was able to import one recipe.

I so, so love this app!!! This app is amazing! It's so much fun adding new recipes and it's so easy! It's like an actual cook book, but it's so much easier to find the recipe of your choice!

Good app Its a great app. Very handy and helpful but only one downfall. Once i share a recipe too it, either the ingredients or directions wont show up so i have to copy an paste one of the two before saving to the app.

Soo great I love that you can put pictures and categories and the shopping list is amazing this app is just wonderful I love it I love it I love it this definitely deserves a 5 star But the only problem is that when you pick a shopping list it picks all the ingridients for the recipe .... I would like to choose the ingridients I want

Categories Id really like to see this developed a bit more. it seems great though. immediately id like a little more flexibility in the 'Category' selection. Id like to be able to create my own categories. Im wishing for categories like Thai, Mexican, Cocktails.... etc.
