Summary
Angry Birds—need I say more? We all know it, we all love it (or love to hate it) and for the past three years there's pretty much been no escaping it. And now – hold on to your hats here – Angry Birds and Stars Wars have teamed up and come out with a hybrid game: Angry Birds Star Wars. Let's dive right in and find out more.
Features & Use
The gameplay is still the same as ever: sling a bunch of miffed birds at a separate bunch of nasty pigs. Who knows what the magic formula is that helped turn the original Angry Birds (as well as a lot of its flankers) into such a world wide success; my guess is that the excellent physics engine in combination with the fun and quirky gameplay (and a powerful marketing strategy) is what pushed the Angry Birds up into the stratosphere. I personally got a bit fed up with Angry Birds—but then came Angry Birds Star Wars. The difference is the setting (outer space), meaning that both the visuals and physics are changed up. And get this: some of the settings are the very same as in the original Star Wars trilogy. Not only that, but some of the Star Wars character pop up and are part of the game.IMO, Rovio have done a great jb at coming up with a completely new spin on Angry Birds.
The physics engine is still as impressive, and every new round is a bit different from the previous one. As a Star Wars fan I was thrilled to see Luke Skywalker, Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca and a few others make appearances. Luke has a lightsaber (of course), and Han Solo carries a laser gun. You can even use The Force to project objects through the air.
Angry Birds Star Wars currently has 100 levels and new ones are added regularly, so there's plenty to keep users entertained for a while.
The birds are even more differentiated and all have their own qualities, meaning the challenge to top the high score is even more, well erm, challenging!
Bottom line:
Angry Birds Star Wars is quite simply an awesome game, and actually my favourite from the whole Angry Birds series. They've really managed to incorporate the Star Wars franchise in a smart and personal way, including sounds and music. The main menu music is a great mix between Stars Wars and Angry Birds music—wicked! Pigs are Imperial troupes, and lasers and robots (e.g. AT-AT) can be used to your advantage. Cool!
Screen & Controls
The 2D graphics are just as fun and charming as ever, and the levels are just as detailed. Sound effects are also excellent.
Angry Birds Star Wars is very easy to use.
Speed & Stability
No stability problems whatsoever with Angry Birds Star Wars. The game performs very well overall, except for a few brief lags here and there on the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Price/Performance Ratio
Angry Birds Star Wars is free (with ad banners from the Google Play Store). The HD version costs EUR 2.69.
