Summary

It's when I'm waiting around at a doctor's for an appointment or just chilling at home on the sofa at the end of the day that I always succumb to playing time-killer games. The App Center and Google Play are abundant with time killer games, and every now and then I enjoy diving in and seeing what I can fish out. Today let's take a closer look at TiltMazes, a labyrinth game. Read on for details.

Features & Use

Section rating:

TiltMazes is a logics game in which you have to guide a ball through a labyrinth to reach various goals. The ball can change direction, but not just anywhere: it has to hit a wall before you can make the next move. Furthermore, it can only be moved horizontally or vertically, meaning you have to thinking ahead and – literally – around corners.

Should you hit a dead end from which there is no way out you will have to start the level from the top.

One thing that struck us during our test runs: it would seem that some levels can't be solved, which is the kind of thing that can really get my goat.

The cool thing is that you can play any level you like without having to unlock a given level first. Levels are not arranged according to their degree of difficulty, unfortunately, making it hard to pick an easy/more challenging one.

Bottom line:

TiltMazes is an entertaining game that can certainly keep your mind occupied for a few minutes here or there.

The drawbacks we mentioned above – the fact that some levels can't be solved and that levels aren't listed according to their degree of difficulty – are a little disappointing, but overall this is a good, solid, basic time killer, and it'll give your grey cells a nice workout.

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

The TiltMazes UI is minimal, some might even call it spartan. The background is black and the goal is purple. When a ball hits the wall there's a short sound. And that's all she wrote.

The ball is moved via motion sensors, meaning you need only tilt your smartphone to get the ball rolling. Alternatively, you can chose to navigate the ball via touchscreen controls. Overall, controls work rather nicely.

Speed & Stability

Section rating:

The game starts up fast and recognising in which the device is tilting is almost instantaneous. TiltMazes did not crash at all during our test runs.

Price/Performance Ratio

Section rating:

TiltMazes can be downloaded free of charge.

Excellent game for intelligent people who understand that you should turn automatic orientation off on your phone or turn off sensor based controls in the app. An excellent implementation of an age old game. With path traps and complex solutions, reasonable permissions and no price tag, it's a winner.

Hated it Sooo hard to figure out and confusing. Wasting our time. One star for trying

Screen twists As I try to roll the ball, the display goes from portrait to landscape and back. Ball moves while it is twisted to landscape. Makes the game total luck, no skill!

Poor game! I understand the game, it just doesn't work well. The screen keeps reorienting and you can't get the marble to go where you want it.

Favorite Awesome ..

It's a logic puzzle, not a dexterity game! I can only assume that all the one-star reviews for this app are from people who don't understand the point of it. It's a great implementation of a certain type of logic puzzle, and it works exactly as it is supposed to. Don't give it a bad review just because you're frustrated! Try to learn something new!
