Summary

Sometimes I feel like I’m drowning in a sea of Android games, and it’s hard to pick out the good eggs because of the sheer multitude of apps that are  floating around out there. But today I’m pleased to present a true gem that’s available from both the App Center and Google Play: FreeAllRabbits. What’s so special about this game? Find out in our review.

It goes without saying that we heart app stores, but they do have a downside: sometimes spotting little-known yet fantastic games are hard to find. Which is why I still rely on recs from friends or reliable blogs.

FreeAllRabbits is a winner in my eyes. The gameplay is unexpected and fun: a bunch of naughty dinosaurs decide to lock up the poor bunnies in a stadium so that they can then pester them all they want. It’s your role to help the rabbits escape to greener pastures, erm, I mean zone by means of a sling. The dinosaurs have their minds set on getting the bunnies to a red zone on the other side oft he green zone.

Shooting at the rabbits is easier said than done, or shall we say that it requires a certain amount of practice, especially since the dinos are shooting at the bunnies too, sending them scampering around. Oh, and if a dinosaur hits you the game is over. But luckily you can shoot at the dinosaurs before they can start with their antics.

Each level has ist own physics engine and thus quirks to deal with. In some you’ll have to rid the way of barrels or planks of wood so that the bunnies have a smooth passage. You only have a limited amount of amunition, but the more amunition is left at the end of a level the higher your score.

The more rabbits pop up within a level, the more complicated it gets and you have to see whether you can steer them bot hat ones or le tone oft hem slip away, etc. What helps making managing them easier is if you think and plan ahead.

The in-game music also took me pleasantly by surprise, which is quite fun.

Bottom line:

Playing FreeAllRabbits is fun, period. It’s fresh, it’s new, it doesn’t feel like dozens of other games that revisit the same old gameplay over and over again. Thumbs up!

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

Controls are solid and easy to use: use the left button to navigate the character, the right one to play (inverted if you so wish).

Visuals are quite nice and in high res and look sharp even on high end devices such as the Galaxy Note 2.

The main drawback are the menus which are not very sharp and look quite distorted.

FreeAllRabbits is still lots of fun though!
