is there any way to navigate w/o closing any apps or launchers? i miss my palm functions :( i feel like ive got to go thru 5or more different gestures just 2 get 2 my destination.

As Steven says, it depends.

But on most phones with HTC Sense long-pressing the Home button allows you to jump between up to 6 apps without shutting any of them down.
