Organizing Contacts: Facebook, Google, Phone

So the more contacts I get, the more annoying and frustrating it gets to keep track of them. Because I am signed in with my Google account, synched to Facebook AND I had some contacts on my SIM before I got the phone - it's all a huge mess full of duplicates.

So for a person named Joe Doe I get five entries: Joe, Joe Doe, Doe, Joe, Joe "Cool" Doe (from Facebook) etc.

Every time I try to edit a number, I get so freaking frustrated and annoyed that I almost start hating my Android phone.....Is there a way to bring some order and coherence to this mess?
