Managing data and formating SD cards from Android phone

Hello! I'm trying to free up some space on my SD card (its 16 gig if that matters for some reason). I don't want to go through and delete all the files but hand and I dont have a card reader so what are my options? I have a LG Optimus S. Is there a way to just format the card direct from my Optimus?

Don't you have a USB slot on your PC/Notebook and a USB Cable for your mobile?
you could do it that way or:

go to your Settings - SD CARD & Internal Space - Remove SD Card - Formate SD Card

I'm not sure about the translation cause i have a german phone :P
