Google Nexus S — switching from android 4.1.2 to 2.3.3

Can someone correct me if I am wrong, but it seems as if Nexus S can only be downgraded from JellyBean 4.1.2 to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 to Gingerbread 2.3.6.

I have a nexus s on 2.3.1, baseband ,I9020 xxjk8.kernal, 2.6.35.7-g7f1638a, android-build@apa28#1, build #, soju-userdebug, 2,3,1 . GRH78 85442 ,Test-keys. Have tried all the above and each time comes up with same thing. ( e, failed to verify whole file signature, ) ( signature verifaction fail instaoll aborted,) Anyone any sugestions, Thanks in advance. ))))
