Updating Android

I have a Kogan Agora 10.1" Tablet with Android 4.0.which I use regularly and whilst it is not speedy it suits meas I am in my 70s and not very fast myself.
I would like to update but Kogan have not put out any updates.

The manual says it is a standard version of Android so I hope I can use any version of 4.2 or 4.3 direct from Google
Can anyone advise me what I can/should do

The problem you'll face is that updates are hardware-dependent. Unless someone has put out a root option and custom ROM for this tablet, you're unlikely to have a good option to upgrade. This is the problem with buying cheap tablets - they're cost-effective but unsupported by developers and their manufacturers.
