Whatsapp has introduced a privacy settings feature that allows you to hide your profile picture, status, and/or last seen time. Therefore, you may not be able to see a contact's information depending on how they have configured their settings.
If your contact has chosen the My Contacts option, you will only be able to see their information if they have added you to their address book. Please make sure your contact has saved your number in their phone book in order to see their information.
If you or your contact have chosen Nobody in privacy settings, you will not be able to see their information.
