My android has turned off the wifi, it says I need to refresh access point list, but as yet not found where that is - any suggestions?

Go to settings/WiFi and refresh. That should bring up the available networks again.

many thanks but there doesn't seem to be a refresh button or option. I went to more settings and to wifi but it says it's off and the sliding button at the top right does not seem to function. It does say it is turning the wifi on but nothing happens.

Normally that's caused by a kernel problem. Have you tried rebooting?
