Updates to OS

I have an Android Version 2.2.2. I am trying to figure out how to update the OS? Can I even do this? I can not use my mobile banking app with out the update.

You can check for updates manually by going to Settings -> About device -> Software update -> Update(s). It should check for you if there any updates out there for your mobile phone.
