Sony Xperia Z3 Compact — Should I root?

All my life ive had an iphone and always jailbroken them so im thinking of Rooting my Z3 compact however.. Im afraid i might break it, i just need telling/reassuring it is safe and wont damage any phone components as i am willing to customise certain parts like;

That is what i want my Z3 to have(The two buttons) just like the HTC M7, that design in my opinion looks great and I wish to somehow manage to get that however, is it possible and safe? Any feedback would mean a lot!
