Can I restrict unwanted contacts knowing that I am using Whatsapp if I use a second SIM and share that number selectively?

First post here, so please excuse me if I am breaking any rules or not following the norm. ANd if so, please do educate me.

Okay, never used Whatsapp till date because I do not want all my contacts to know that I use it. Recently bought a dual sim phone and was wondering if subscribing to Whatsapp through the new number (completely unknown to others yet) will give me a workaround solution.

If I subscribe to Whatsapp using the new phone number and then share that number only with selective contacts that I want to use Whatsapp with, will the other people in my contacts who DO NOT know of / have my new number in their contact list automatically get to know that I now have Whatsapp and also get to know my number?

Or do I have a chance to selectively choose contacts to chat with, thanks to a new phone number in a dual sim phone?

Can the experts advise? Will greatly appreciate it.
