SamMobile is reporting that the newest Android Jelly Bean update (4.2) is already in the making at Samsung HQ, and that the update should reach the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 in Q1 of 2013. Sammy has been on a roll lately in updating Android devices, and having the chance to get their hands on 4.2 software early on (via the Nexus 10) could very well make Samsung the first OEM to receive the update on a non Nexus device.
The Galaxy S3 is currently in the process of being updated to Android 4.1, and considering that the Note 2 comes with 4.1 out of the box, it makes sense that Samsung would be able to complete the update by the end of quarter 1. Q1 spans from January through March, meaning that S3 and Note 2 owners hopefully won't have to wait that long to get their hands on the newest version of Jelly Bean. Considering the success these 2 devices are currently having, it’s no surprise that Samsung is focusing its efforts on these products first.
Jelly Bean 4.2 is considered an incremental update, but improves greatly on the already fantastic groundwork that was laid in Jelly Bean 4.1. The update addresses performance, includes changes to the keyboard, camera, settings (Quick settings), Google now, and much more.
Samsung has not commented on its 4.2 update plans as of yet, but considering the reputation of SamMobile, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see the update hitting S3 and Note 2 devices in Q3.
