If you're like me you're taking Halloween very seriously this year as an excuse to get in the spirit of things and play some awesome Halloween edition games in between stuffing my face with candy so badly I'll be at the dentist by November 1st. In between all that trick or treating, getting up to mischief and general tomfoolery, skullduggery and shenanigans, spend your down time this All Hallow's Eve with some serious games for Halloween. Without further ado, here's the cream of the crop of special edition and perfectly timed Halloween games to make your fright night right.
I figure we should warm into these things, so first up is Despicable Me: Minion Rush which has received a special Halloween makeover that lets you costume up and roam the streets of Gru's local neighborhood as a vampire. All the usual Minion madness is there to enjoy so if you haven't had an adventure with those little overall-clad Twinkies lately now is the time.
A Halloween variety of the classic Zombie Smash, but not made by the same developer, Smash Monster will give you all the trick or treater mooshing you can handle. If you can't bear the thought of another knock on the door, you can take out your frustrations on the endless lines of vampires, mummies, skeletons and werewolves. There's even a giant tarantula to squish. Great, simple gameplay and classic, endless or strong wave modes, Smash Monster will get you through the stress of Halloween with nothing worse than grubby fingers.
Some of you already know I'm a big fan of zombie shooters, and I already dig the simplicity of Gun Zombie: Hellgate, where all you have to do is stand there and blast away at the encroaching undead hordes. There's not much else to know or do, just cut down the oncoming witches, pumpkin heads, skeletons, goblins, ghouls and ghosties. Even Frankenstein makes an appearance. If you're in need of some quick Halloween stress release while you wait for everyone to arrive or get ready, Gun Zombie: Halloween has you covered. There's even a holiday gift of additional gold, weapons and abilities to get you started.
Angry Birds Friends / Bad Piggies: Halloween editions
Where would this list be without some Halloween-themed Angry Birds action? In fact, you've got your choice of playing Angry Birds Friends or Bad Piggies with all the worm-ridden candy-craving pigs you can handle. In Angry Birds Friends you'll have to kill those dastardly piggies and then kill them again because their rotting zombie corpses will rise from the earth before you can repitch your catapult. In the Dusk 'til Dawn update of Bad Piggies, where you must build vehicles to get the porkers to their treats, features the same undead piggies but this time you'll have to help them in their efforts to get to the King Pig's candy stash.
You may be thinking that my understanding of Halloween is almost exclusively related to zombies, but when I think of Halloween I think of little else. Except slutty pumpkins. And considering Dead Trigger 2 just dropped last night to the hungry hordes, I can't imagine it not being on everyone's Halloween download list. The new version of the classic first person shooter is more mission-based than the first and has a new automatic fire feature that lets you focus on navigating the zombie-filled streets. The sooner you get into the game, the more you'll see of the real-time events that unfold. So take a minute out of costume shopping to install this bad boy. It deserves a place on every Android device.
If you're a fan of strategic tower defense games then you'll be happy to know that you'll also be getting a brand new game to play this Halloween. Plants Vs Zombies 2 has just dropped in the Play Store and is just as addictive as the original. Not necessarily a Halloween-themed update but a all-round scary fun-fest, Plants Vs Zombies will keep you plugging those zombies for weeks on end. The difference this time is that you can add some time-travel to the mix and defend ancient Egypt, a pirate ship or the Wild West against stumbling zombies. There's a new sheriff in town and he even travels into the future...
Even Subway Surfers has taken a fresh coat of smoke, slime and cobwebs to celebrate the time of year. The World Tour finds you in New Orleans just in time for the scariest night of the year as you rampage through the deserted train yards avoiding capture – this time from Frankenstein! – with a great backdrop of bats, spooky moons and clouds and pumpkin tokens galore. You can even get into the spirit of things with custom costumes.
That should be enough to keep you busy this Halloween, but if you know of any other major Halloween games please share them in the comments below.
