Obviously, Google’s “Butter” is included too. As I mentioned before, this release is sweet. As an added bonus, Samsung built-in a Dropbox login. Once logged in you will automatically receive 50 Gigabytes of free Dropbox cloud space.
Samsung has leaked a Jellybean pre-release for the Galaxy S2 and it’s smooth as silk. I must say, if this is a sign of things to come, then all us S2 owners are going to be very happy for Christmas.
The release version is 4.1.2 and has the aqua theme built in. Obviously, Google’s “Butter” is included too. As I mentioned before, this release is sweet. Most importantly, our Ole GalaxyS2 still has some surprises left in her- eh or him.
As an added bonus Samsung built-in a Dropbox login. Once logged in you will automatically receive 50 Gigabytes of free Dropbox cloud space. I don’t know about you, but as an old school Dropbox user I am super pleased with this little incentive.
I installed this pre-release and it went without a hitch. During the last two days I have been testing it pretty heavily and have yet to find much wrong with it. I did notice the battery seems to go faster, but that could also be me excitedly playing with the new version. I just can’t seem to keep my hands off my old S2.
All the expected functionality of JB is there, and it is amazing how the S2 just blows through it all without even a lag.
For me - this is just what I had on my Christmas list :-)
If you want to try out the pre-release go to our Forum, you'll find the details there under: http://www.androidpit.com/en/android/forum/category/2001180/Root-Custom-Roms-Modding-Samsung-S-Galaxy-II.
Most of all, know that something great is coming for Christmas from Samsung.

Nope, not yet
Did the official FOTA come to ur s2 ?
Hi Oscar, I am not familiar with the P version. not able to give much advice on this one. Sorry.
Hey Chris,
I have a I9100P (not g) it's an orange UK exclusive with nfc built in.
I have had some experience in flashing roms before, but not with any Samsung hardware as of yet, I am considering flashing a JB rom if the time of the OTA update is ages away (as is standard with carrier locked phones)
Oscar, I haven't seen any yet. I am hoping to see another release by mid December or before Christmas. What is the type of S2 that you have? I9100G - GT -?
I Have a UK Galaxy SII (Orange NFC Variant) has there been any news from carriers yet on possible release dates?
SAK, I do not believe so. I can't find anyone who says it work. In the forum I sent you a link to check on.
does it work with GT-I900G ?
will your leaked firmware work on a GT-I900G ?
can your leaked firmware work on GT-I900G ?
Guy, I agree, excellent firmware for a leak.
One more thing I forgot to mention: battery life has actually improved, though not by a lot. It's certainly not worse than with ICS. But ymmv when jou just can't put your phone down:-)
I've had this leaked JellyBean on my rooted S2 for a full week now. And I must say, it feels like a brand new device. Project Butter has done magic, not only for the stock apps, but everywhere. You're going to love it!
cant wait for it !!!!!!!!!
Hi SAK, Samsung are very solid when it comes to updates. This is a pre.release and the word is that they hope to roll out the final by Christmas. They tend to roll out to Europe first then Asia and the Americas. So there is a good chance you will receive an update. I hope it happens this year too.
I own a GT-I900G in India. on 24 November I got a 4.0.4 update as FOTA from Samsung. Will I be getting a JB update now ? please answer. I love my phone and 4.1 !!
Sshenner, great news. I am glad it worked out for you.
Norm, you my be right about the battery. It may be just because we have a new rom and are playing with it a lot.
thats funny....i dont see the battery drain everyone else is seeing..... actually it seems to last a bit longer for me.
Christopher thanks. I actually took risk and installed the rom. In fact there is no Arabic Interface option but Arabic support (Keyboard and Fonts) is there and all what I need is just that. So Arabic is supported actually. The rom is amazing and smooth and gave me the 50BG DropBox. But like most people said, it drains battery quickly. Another thing I dislike is the absence of Polaris Office.
Norm is right. GT-I9100 is the proper namenclature for this firmware.
sshennar - I looked, I did not find Arabic. Lots of languages, sadly no Arabic.
Can someone please do me a favor and look in the settings to see if arabic support is available in this rom. Thank you.
@ Buddy Wills, it should, as long as your phone is the GT-I9100.
will this work on the Boost Mobile version of the samsung galaxy s 2?
So what about the SGS2X?.....this pre release wont work with it will it?
S2 is awesome Chris... Cheers to that and you
Chinu, the S2 comes with a (if I remember correctly) 1,600 MAh battery. I purchased the 2,000 MAh and find it to be a perfect solution. Still thin and light but just enough extra power to push into day two.
I like the fact that I can change the battery, add memory via micro sd.. This has given me the room for growth I needed over the almost two years I have owned the S2.
Now that JB is on it it feels as smooth as the quad core devices. I am happy !
Yep your absolutely right my wife phone is a little better in the battery then mines
Rondell,
Yes, I have noticed that the battery life is not as good as the 4.04 final. But this is a pre-release and Sammy tends to clean things up real well. So I expect the battery life to get tightened up in the next couple of weeks for the final. (only about 5-10% worse)
By the way, the speed is great, I ran tests like quadrant and others and this version is super fast!.
Definitely Chris... S2 is with one of my friends...and I really adore that piece... Sometimes I hate my cell... By all means it's the best phone.... And the main thing is that it never stuxs during work and the touch and operation is really really smooth as butter.... for rooted awa non rooted users.... Also you mentioned that you changed your battery kit... And it's running well... So by this I'm expecting that for S2 , this will happen as you can.change your processor and Ram and fix the new one of what you want... So may be we can chahe hardware to some like 4 GB DDR 3 and 2 GHZ quad core processor along with Android 5.0 OS......... :-)
cool because i love my galaxy we was starting to feel like an neglected step child .....but i see alot people sayin their battery doesnt last long i had my epic 4g touch since it came out and my battery life is amazing im running on 30% right now after two days of no chagring
Rondell, I believe this a sign of things to come. This pre-release will certainly turn final, and then be rolled out to most- if not all S2's world wide.
Chinu, I have to agree. The S2 still is an amazing device that was so far ahead of the rest- it is still a valid competitor. Especially with the new OS.
Flexible: I added the original Samsung XL Battery kit - with back plate (€17.00) to ensure I have power for as long as I need it. Currently this is still a great phone. Fast, smooth and sweet! Lovin' it.
@ Norm, yep !
S2 is the one of the best phone created in the history..... No one can replace that monster by their high end spects and all..... It's ayi the my dream phone though I'm using note 1....
Respect.... Take a bow... __/\__
ok so this update is only for the international gs2 wtf man ......no one cares about that phone where is the update for galaxy s2 epic 4g touch
I agree this is an amazing pre release...i also fell in love with my S2 all over again.
Project Butter.....wow, simply wow.
Joe, I disagree. This is just a good release. A well planned update. Sammy stated that they hope to update the S2 to JB between mid Nov. and end Dec. And they did it.
Also, no purchase needed. ;-)
The S2 has a lot of life left.
John, yeah, I fell in love with my S2 all over again. Sometimes we forget how good and far ahead of the rest this device was when it came out.
The new TW is very nice and look and sounds good too.
Wow....i think this will give a new look to my Samsung Galaxy S2.!!!!!!
