Install Android 4.3 on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 tutorial

Sterling Keys

We posted on how to install Android 4.3 on your Samsung Galaxy S4 earlier today and had some people who were chomping at the bit to get the same thing on their Galaxy Note 2. Without further ado, here’s how to install Android 4.3 on your Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Android 4.3 for Galaxy Note 2

Much like with the Galaxy S4 update, you can expect the following with the latest OS:

  • Improved stability and fluidity. Android 4.3 is generally faster.
  • Samsung Wallet
  • Samsung Knox (professional tool)
  • Reading Mode (screen control for prolonged reading)
  • More natural colors/better color reproduction
  • More accurate display

A little bit of information behind the release:

Model: GT-N7100
Country: Open Europe
Version: Android 4.3
Changelist: 1750609
Build date: Fri, 25 Sep 2013 18:06:49 +0000
Product Code: OXA

This is done at your own risk and is not an official release from Samsung.

Installing Android 4.3 on the Galaxy Note 2

1. Download the firmware here: Android 4.3 firmware test Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100

We've updated the link with one that should work. However, if you still have issues with getting error messages when you go to download the file, use the technique listed below to get it over to your own Google Drive account and download it from there.

  • Click File > Move to Folder
  • Select your gdrive folder and select MOVE
  • Log on your gdrive, right-click the file and “Create Copy”
  • Download the copied file

2. Unzip the zip file, and you will get two files with the extension .tar.md5 and a file with the extension .tar

3. Download Odin 3.09, and unpack the .zip also.

4. Launch Odin.

5. Reboot your Galaxy Note 2 in download mode (Volume Up + Power + Home button).

6. Connect your Galaxy Note 2 via USB cable to your computer and wait for Odin to recognize it. A blue box should then appear (in the program).

7. Add:

8. Make sure that the re-partition box is not checked.

9. Click Start and wait a few minutes until the procedure ends. Do not disconnect your note 2, be patient.

10. Once your Galaxy Note 2 restarts, it's all good to go!

As usual, if you have any concerns at startup, perform a wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode (Volume Down + Power + Home button).

How's it working out for everyone? Anybody test it out yet?

well My Note 2 is now in the form of money (or rather in the form of Saturn giftcards) which will be used for Note 3, ao I cant test this, too bad...

However, you most likely will have Android 4.3 already on your Galaxy Note 3 when you get it. ;)

It would be nice if you make another article focusing on the new features that come along with this firmware and also the bugs which have been found until now. @ Sterling Keys

  • Sterling Keys Oct 6, 2013 Link

Hey Pritesh. It seems it's been overloaded so use the following steps to get the download. You'll need your own Google Drive account to make it work:

Click File > Move to Folder
Select your gdrive folder and select MOVE
Log on your gdrive, right-click the file and “Create Copy”
    Download the copied file.

@John: You should download the files to your PC first and use the steps above.

@Seam: I'll see if I can get someone in-house @ AndroidPIT who has access to a Note 2 to try it out and report back.

Hey Saem! I did some digging in the meantime and found someone on the SamMobile site who listed some of the new features. I've just copied and pasted it into the comment box as-is:

"so far the new GOOD things are
    1. New lock screen with all the new clock and widgets like S4 and surprisingly the bar is transparent so Im guessing it will be on the home screen on the official release
    2. Group play icon appears on the menu
    3. New calculator design
    4. New S voice although it can be downloaded from Samsung apps with Samsung hub using 4.1.2
    5. New gallery with new display of items + new video Player
    6. S planer looks different
    7. as I said new notification panel new look of the brightens level
    8. New display setting it can be noticed once the device is activated there is a new setting that over ride the standard,Dynamic,Natural,Movie to adjust the screen
    9. Some new Icons some where not changed
    10. New music player like the S4
    11. Dropping the notification panel dos not lag unlike 4.1.2
    12. Settings are now tabs like the S4
    13. Multi window is now white

    the BAD things are
    1. Same lag when going from Apps to widgets
    2. The new font looks big and bold and ugly
    3. Stuck with the old weather widget"

You guys should all come over here and get involved with what we have done at XDA in this thread:

We have successfully ported the Note 3 framework, apps, sounds, and almost all software features to the Note 2 in less than 4 days time. We have over 90% of the features working perfectly from the Note 3 on our Note 2 running 4.3, and it is freakin fantastic. Ive never been so happy with my Note 2...

    ....I should say Note 3 actually :-)

I have a Note 2 N7100. Have added android 4.3 several times. The operating system is good, but when I do a restart, it will not start up again. I have to remove the sd card for it to start up again. Have formatted SD card on the PC before I placed the android 4.3 and deleted all the cell phone. Everything went very smoothly. User Norwegian language was also in the list of languages. Have problems with S-note. When I for example, to write e-mail with the pen, it is just great writing. Does not change the pen size. Have added back to android 4.1.2. Wonder if it's Update to 4.2.2 to Note 2 N7100.?
