Loie Favre found her way to her present passion for Android and smartphone technology after experiencing an epiphany when she held her Galaxy Note 2. From that point onwards, you can find her with her nose buried in countless Android apps and different smartphone models, and thanking her lucky stars that she gets to work at something she loves.
If you like card games like Rummy, but you still aren't able to get an equivalent for Android, Rummikub might be just the answer. Instead of using cards. Here you play with domino-like tiles and the rules are a little different and adapted for smartphones.
To find out if Rummikub will be able to earn a spot on your smartphone will be discussed in today's app test review.
Rummikub opens a main menu that allows you to customize the game, turn off sound effects, set the skill level of your opponents and view information about the developers. In the rules section, you can learn everything about the operation of the game. At the beginning of the game, you're presented with 14 blocks, the same number is giving to your opponent. The remaining blocks are upside down on the deck and your opponent's cards are hidden. Each piece contains the numbers 1 through 13 in four different colors: red, yellow, black and blue. The aim of the game is to combine either consecutive numbers of the same color or a trio of numbers from different colors. The purpose of Rummikub is to play all of your tiles before your opponent does.
The first combination must make a combined 30 points. Once you've played this, you can proceed to add pieces to the combinations on the table or create new ones. IF you cannot add something to the table, you need to draw from the tiles on the deck. At the end of the game, it will count the total of the tiles left in the player's hand.
The app shows 5 different keys on the right, which serve to pause the game and get an overview of your current score and that of your opponents. It the game gets to be really monotone, you can increase the ability of the computer as well as put a time limit for each turn.
Rummikub is an interesting game that adapts to a wide audience of players. It can be made more challenging by adding a time limit. If you like card games, you'll definitely find yourself liking the smartphone version of Rummy.
Screen & Controls
Rummikub has good graphics. However this game is not suitable for very small screen, since it requires a lot of space. The menu, on the other hand, is small and basic. The keys are not visible on the screen and their use is not clear when you start the game. You just need to try them out.
Speed & Stability
Rummikub worked without problems during our app test. There were no delays or crashes.
Rummikub can be purchased from the Google Play Store for $3.88. This price isn't cheap, given that there are other Android games like Rummikub that are much cheaper. In any case, the evaluation of the game remains positive.
