Features & Use
Test device: HTC Evo 3D
Android version: 4.0.4
First off I should mention that the application notified me right from the beginning that it hadn't been fully tested for my device yet. I hit OK nonetheless and the next step is then to log in, either via your Facebook account or email address.
Tiny Tower loads relatively quickly, and once it has you can watch an interactive tutorial that explains the game in 21 steps. You build your first apartment and shop within the tutorial itself, and learn how to use the game's currency, the and gold coins.
There are five different types of commercial spaces you can build: drug stores, retail, recreation, service and food. Every shop can sell up to three articles and have no more than three employes. With every employe comes a new product, and with each product you must take the purchase price, sale value and delivery time into account.
The apartments you build are inhabited by your “bitizens”, and they're all unique and have their own qualities and skills. Their strengths are measured on a scale from 1-9, allowing you to determine in which domain a given bitizen is best suited to work.
Some bitizens will be able to work their dream job, and when they do you get Bux as well as a star for the shop in question, which affords you a deal for the first product for the store.
Whenever you purchase an article you will have to wait for a certain amount of time for it to be delivered, and the higher your building is the more time it will take. Speaking of waiting, you also have to be patient when it comes to building new floors to your building.
If you're feeling impatient, use the Bux to speed things along. You earn Bux by locating specific people within the building, or by escorting them to the floor they want to get to in the elevator, for instance.
Check out the Bitbook to find out what Bitizens are thinking about, what mood they're in, what they're feeling, what they're hoping for—much like Facebook, but for Bitizens!
Tine Tower is a fun game, even if you do need patience when waiting for products to arrive and new levels to be built. But, seeing as earning a few Bux here and there isn't all that hard you can speed things along easily enough. It's a great app for playing in between.
Screen & Controls
The pixel graphics are just great as Tiny Tower is extremely clear as a result, even when you're running it on high resolution. The textures remain crisp.
If you've got large fingers I recommend being more careful, as some moves require a bit of precision.
Speed & Stability
Tiny Tower runs great, even on lower-end devices. That said, the game should normally only run on preselected Android models. If you've got a device that isn't supported I recommend trying it out to see if it will work anyway. I tested the game on my HTC Evo 3D and the app notified me that it hadn't been tested for this smartphone and that errors could occur.
Tiny Tower is free and can be found in Google Play. The game Bux can also be purchased with real money.
