All Hallow's Eve is right around the corner and we thought we'd pimp your Android in preparation for the fright fest. Whether you plan to spend the night remembering the dead, celebrating the harvest or just getting trashed while dressed as a slutty pumpkin, AndroidPIT has all your Halloween app needs covered. If you haven't started thinking about your costume yet or need some decoration and food ideas, put down these freaky apps for a minute and check out Loie's Halloween app suggestions.
This app has been making serious rounds of the AndroidPIT office the last couple of days. Brought to you by AMC, the makers of the best zombie series ever, Dead Yourself is quick and easy and gives extremely awesome results in less than a minute. Simply take a photo or load one from your gallery, and instantly apply gruesome effects to you or your loved ones. Sickening effects for eyes and mouth and general filters and weapons add to the effect, which you can then share or save, like your severed head in a tank. It is seriously the must-have app for Halloween in my opinion.
Where would Halloween be without ghost stories? I've seen some pretty terrible ''ghost stories'' apps in my search to compile this list, but this app stopped me in my tracks. Instead of the usual cheesy ghost stories, Joe Kwon's True Ghost Stories are just that: true ghost stories submitted by readers around the world. So instead of cliched haunted house murder site tales, you'll get real ghost stories as told by the people they actually happened to. There's literally hundreds of scary stories to get through and I’ve only just begun, but I love the fact that the app is built from the contributions of its users. If you've got a scary story or just want to read some, this is the app to freak you out and get you believing this Halloween.
Stuff your mobile with Halloween ringtones or just sneak up behind someone and let one of these freaky sound bites rip. There's everything you could ask for in these two apps, conveniently called the same thing, from chilling sounds, ambient background noise and ring tones in Scary Sounds (including the classic Halloween theme), to all the usual screams, laughs and scary effects in Scary Sounds (including vampirish organ music). Although how a Kookaburra became a scary sound I'm not quite sure. You can set any sounds from either app as ringtones, notification sounds or alarms. Between these two you should have every Halloween sound catered for and I just couldn't pick between them.
This one actually costs a couple bucks, so please take note, but I've seen so many badly done live wallpapers and themes that this one was just too good to leave off the list. Seriously immersive 3D environment both outside and inside a beautifully rendered haunted house. This live wallpaper is going to have a lot more shelf life than just Halloween. If you're as impressed as I am with this install you can also add other settings to your live wallpaper environment including a cemetery. The graphics in this thing are just so impressive I think I might have to splurge a little more. For the cost of a candy bar it's definitely worth it.
This list wouldn't really be a Halloween list if it didn't have at least one prank app in it. Scare Your Friends is the classic pop up image and scream combo that we all hate to fall for. The pictures to choose from are really pretty nightmarish and are guaranteed to freak out your friends and earn you a punch in the arm. But hey, it's Halloween, so we've all got to be a little childish sometimes, right? Just choose the image and sound combination you want, set the timer and give your friend your phone to do something with until they drop one in their pants.
What are you going as this year? Got any other freaky Halloween apps we should know about?
