After nearly 700 votes, the NextPit Community around the world has made its preference for flagship models clear. In our poll of the week, dozens of devices received votes from readers, but two phones stood out as the 2021 mobiles the public would buy with their own money: the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.

After closing the poll with 698 votes, the two Ultras were the most voted models with 145 and 65 votes, respectively, followed by the OnePlus 9 Pro with 60 votes. The Top 10 were dominated by devices from the brands Xiaomi/Poco and Samsung, but had two other "outsiders" beyond OnePlus, the Realme GT and Sony Xperia 1 III.

Which phone would you buy from your own money in 2021?

The top three positions went to flagship models from Samsung, Xiaomi and OnePlus, with the Galaxy S21 Ultra receiving more votes than the Mi 11 Ultra and OnePlus 9 Pro combined - 145 versus 65 and 60 votes. The other two models in the Galaxy S21 lineup were also well voted, with 33 and 25 votes, while the regular Xiaomi Mi 11 came in 11th place with 18 votes, while the OnePlus 9, with 16, came in 13th place, just behind the Oppo Find X3 Pro (17).

But it wasn't just the high-end models that were remembered by the NextPit Community. Intermediates like the Poco F3 (33), Redmi Note 10 Pro (30), Poco X3 Pro (20) and Samsung Galaxy A52 5G (15) were heavily voted. In the case of the Poco models, probably influenced by the great value for money with the Snapdragon 870 and 860 processors - re-releases of the former top-of-the-line 865 and 855, respectively - while the Redmi Note and Galaxy A5 families have traditionally been among the best-sellers of their brands year after year.

Outside the Samsung/Xiaomi/OnePlus trio, the Realme GT was the most voted model. As Antoine pointed out in his review, the device's cost-performance ratio is unbeatable, which was remembered by José Luís' comment in the Brazilian poll.

The surprise of the top 10 goes to the Sony Xperia 1 III in the ninth place. The model is already on pre-sale in Europe and North-America, but is expected to be delivered only in August, which did not scare away community members, attracted by the model's powerful specifications, especially the novel variable focal length lens (with Zeiss signature).

Some readers voted for models outside the list like the iPhone 12, Galaxy Fold and Note line, Pixel, Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro and even the Huawei P30 Pro. The poll, however, only covered models released in 2021, as faktencheck's comment on the German-language poll observed.

The 2021 updates of the iPhone, Galaxy Fold and Pixel families are expected in the second half of the year, along with probable new Mi 11T and Huawei Mate 50 models. The Note line, on the other hand, it seems, will not have a new generation this year.

Thanks to all the participants of this week's poll. If you have a suggestion for the next poll or comments on the results, feel free to use the comment section below. See you on Friday with a new topic to discuss with the NextPit Community.

As the first half of the year comes to an end, it's time for an interim conclusion: What's the best smartphone of 2021 so far? NextPit simply passes the question on to you for our poll of the week.

Next week finally sees the long-awaited MWC in Barcelona, which was cancelled at the last minute in 2020 due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Unlike previous years, however, the show doesn't promise as many exciting releases. The main introductions happened months ago - which is when MWC usually takes place. We then expect the next wave of releases between August and October.

So it's still a while before new top-end models see the light of day. It's possible that Samsung's next Unpacked event, expected in August, will kick things off there and hopefully we'll be able to look forward to new foldables from the South Koreans then.

What's the best phone of the first half of the year?

This year we've seen a lot of top smartphones powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888. At the same time, the new mobile standard 5G has finally made its way into the cheaper price ranges. The first 5G smartphones are now available for under $200. And most recently, Realme still showed with the Realme GT that you can also combine both worlds amazingly well.

We have tested many of these smartphones and could hardly say ourselves which was the one best smartphone. Benjamin Lucks asked in his semi-annual roundup in the newsroom and there were quite a few different answers. Of course, since the NextPit Community is not a dictatorship, let's vote on it quite democratically!

Ben buried this poll under about 2,000 words of text on Wednesday and maybe you didn't feel like answering after his pamphlet. So for this week's poll, we're asking you once again to tell us your favorite cell phone. The answer will be given next week on Monday, of course.

Personally, I'm very curious to see which mobile phone will win the race. I'm sure we'll be looking at these results at the end of the year, when new smartphones from Apple, Google and maybe even Huawei have arrived. But first I wish you a nice weekend and look forward to your answers!

Having written about technology since 2008 for a number of websites in Brazil, Spain, Denmark, and Germany, I specialize in the mobile ecosystem, including various models, components, and apps. I tend to not only value performance and specifications, but also things like repairability, durability, and manufacturer support. I tend to prioritize the end-user's point of view whenever possible.

This "Ultra" majority denotes an interest in performance, for Ultra performance(!), so it is expected (hopefully) that manufacturers will understand this desire and offer even higher performance.
And this aspect is all the more interesting as we look back, so that we can see and compare the level of performance. That is an extremely high level. Really... Ultra !

I rate value higher than screen refresh rates and CPU speed. My pick would be the Moto g stylus 5g but it's not a choice.

Samsung S10 is still the best phone for the price.
