Engadget received some fairly blurry pictures late yesterday from a tipster that show what appears to be the Motorola Kobe, a mid-sized, mid-level Android device. We don't have any other reported pictures of Kobe to compare against at this point, but there are plenty of specs being pushed around about the handset, and AT&T as the probably carrier.
Engadget writes that the device is "definitely destined for AT&T bearing Android 2.1 with Blur (complete with Blur logo on back), though our tipster tells us we can expect an update to 2.2 over the air."
As for a possible release name, I would hope they don't stick with Kobe, as it brings to mind cheese and basketball players. MobileCrunch mentions that the device (model number MB520) is "also being called “Diablo”, but there’s still no retail name available just yet. "
Below are some rumored specs of the Kobe, courtesy of AndroidandMe:
- 800MHz TI OMAP3 CPU
- PowerVR SGX 530 GPU
- 3.5″ display, FWVGA
- 2GB internal storage, 512MB RAM
- 2GB microSD card
- 3 megapixel camera (no flash)
- 802.11 b/g/n wifi
The device's inclusion of Motoblur has Android Central undecided on "whether to be happy that we're looking at leaked pictures of the Motorola MB520 Kobe, or sad in that see the return of old-school Motoblur."
In terms of a release date, AndroidandMe believes that since the device will likely ship with Android 2.1, "the launch is coming sooner rather than later."
Head on over to Engadget's image gallery to see more blurry pictures of the device.
