Authored by: Loie Favre — Mar 11, 2014

You have waited patiently and it has paid off. KitKat is on its way to your Galaxy S4 and Note 3 all in its happy chocolatey package full of sweet new software functions and features that you’ll enjoy taking advantage of.

First off, US T-Mobile Galaxy S4 owners can do a happy dance that their Android smartphone is now next in line for the update, just four days after the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 roll-out commenced. This update is set to bring a lot in tow, including a new user interface with Google Now right on the home screen, some new functions like cloud printing, not to mention many improvements to speed and battery performance. The update is rolling out in stages over-the-air, but if you are feeling a tad impatient, you can grab the mirrored version of the software update from the XDA developers forum.

Here are all the features to look forward to when Android 4.4.2 KitKat hits the Galaxy S4.

Americans aside, UK owners of the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3 can look out for the update as well, which is to be available over-the-air as well. If you still don’t see the software update trying to push through, you can check in your phone’s settings under About phone to see if it is available, or you can manually update this through Samsung Kies software using your computer. Either way, it’s coming to you, so just be patient.

Let us know if you received the update and how it is working for you?

Hey Jeff, what is your Galaxy S4 running right now? Android 4.3? I haven't heard anything about New Zealand but I'll do a little snooping around.

AT&T and Verizon Galaxy Note 3 variants remain on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and have yet to see any information emerge...that being said, it is posted on the Samsung USA website that it will be receiving it, but no date is yet set. AT&T did confirm that they will be fixing a huge GPS issue soon, but were very careful not to mention Android 4.4 KitKat, though this could be a good indication that the wait might soon come to an end. Again, he will keep our eyes out like hawks for an udpate ;)

Does anyone know when the Galaxy Mega 6.3 for Sprint will get the KitKat (4.4.2) upgrade? My wife has an S4 and has had it for a while now.

Hey Dallas! What provider are you with? A week ago, Sprint confirmed the KitKat update is on its way to the Galaxy Mega, but that the exact timing will be shared at a later date, which isn't really helpful. But at least you know it is coming. Regardless of the carrier though, you will be getting it, since Samsung confirmed this back in February for all carriers in the USA.

It seems that you're behind on this one. I've had 4.4.2 for almost 3 weeks now

What provider are you with? This post was to do with T-Mobile only, which just started on the 10 of March for Galaxy S4 owners.
