Remove the GPS icon on status bar

Does anyone know how to remove the GPS on the status bar.

My first guess would be go to Settings--> Location and then uncheck the Use GPS satellites box

tried that its not that easy. the icon still shows up in the status bar.

Are you asking how to turn off GPS as a service, or just how to remove the GPS indicator at the top, once GPS is running?

What phone do you have and are you running any custom ROMs? If you don't know about the ROMs question, then just say no.
