Here are some basic tips for Android newbies, regardless of which phone or version of Android they have:
E-Mail: You can use the Gmail app or mobile web on the phone to check e-mail.
Watch videos by using the YouTube app which should be pre-installed or you can download from Android Market.
Get directions by using Google Maps
You can change the look of your homescreen by installing a new launcher. Search in Android Market or AndroidPIT's App Center for "launcher."
If your battery constantly runs low, consider monitoring by using Juice Defender or just watch your WiFi or 3G use.
