Hello,
I wrote a simple app that allows you to open single events in iCalendar (.ics, .ical) and vCalendar (.vcs) attachments from your mail app and import them into an android device calendar. These attachments are sent e.g. by Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird + Lightning or Lotus Notes.
The workflow is quite simple:
The app is already available some time, but it is still is under development. We would be happy, if you can give us some more user feedback and help us to find the last bugs.
If you have a problem with a particular attachment, we would appreciate it, if you forward it to us. Of course we will keep your data in confidence.
Here you can download the free version of Invitation Processor, a tutorial video is also available there:

Thank you for testing

The workflow is quite simple:
- Open the attached file in your mail app
- Invitation Processor opens or is selectable in a list
- Invitation processor shows event details
- Select an Android calendar to save into
- Define an alarm
- Event gets saved
