Hello everybody,
as part of my bachelor thesis I created a small location-based game called Jewel Chaser. You can download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.openmobilenetwork.jewel
The goal of the game is to collect jewels that have been placed on a map by moving to the corresponding location in the real world. The main goal of the game is to motivate players to contribute data to an open source database.
When you play the game you collect data about cellular network base stations and WiFi access points around you. This data is then sent to the OpenMobileNetwork (http://www.openmobilenetwork.org/) where it will be made available to developers and everybody else free of charge. The data can then be used to build location-based applications without having to use the Google API. However, this is all work in progress so do not expect the data to change immediately after playing the game.
It would be really nice if you would give the game a try and give me your feedback.
Cheers,
Lorenz
