Android 2.3 or 4???

I bought a tablet and we've had nothing but bother with it. The supplier won't refund us but has offered us a better model for no extra.

He said it's available on Android 2.3 or Android 4, whichever I prefer.

I've absolutely no idea what this means or what the difference is. Can someone help?

I only want it to play on games and apps that she downloads if that helps...
