How best to do this?? - Saving Buttons

I am creating an app which I want to have the user be able to add new buttons during run-time.

The way I want it to work is that the user press a button which will open up a like a config window to be able to change some stuff on the button, that bit I can do. The problem I have is how to save the states of the buttons when I change over to the config window and also I would like to have it save the buttons states when I close the application but that is not as important.

I hope I described it clearly for you.
