Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 — Samsung GT N7000

I bought this smartphone in May 2012 and was thrilled by its versatility and have enjoyed using it, However, it has recently developed a fault which completely disables it (except for the use in an emergency). Visible on screen is the phone number pad and, being that, my photo as a background and, as I have said, It is completely locked! There appears to be no way around this - unless someone has experience this and knows what to do. Help appreciated.
