RE: Any store outside Google Play?

There are quite a few stores that are non-Google Play, but be careful as ultimately any app can be cracked or de/re-compiled. At the moment there are several versions of Aptoide, and Blackmart, both of which have only one 'genuine' source while the others are totally unregulated sites full of hackware. If you have no options (i.e. Google Play is blocked in your country) you can use Google to try and find/download them, but personally I wouldn't recommend it. As John says, the best alternative is probably Amazon.

There are quite a few good stores like:Samsung apps, getjar, slideme, AppsLib, Amazon and other Chinese app stores like Baidu, Tencent App Gem, AppChina, Anzhi.

In this forum, Android Center, you can download apps directly. Another app store, like Amazon, 1 mobile, AppsZoom. You can find many, just google search "android app store".

I believe there are hundreds of android apo stores in china and googleplay is not the popular store.

In the Western world it's mostly Google Play. But in China they have around 20 stores and Google Play has only 5% market share. I wonder if GP will take over them in the future. Would be nice for devs not having to reach each store individually!
