Google Play - or anyone else - is not downloading updates

For the last few days, all my updates From GP and nearly all installs from other sites have been stuck saying 'downloading'. Streaming movies is ok.
What can I do to clear this, please ?

Well, try going to the application manager> select the Google Play Application, clear its cache and data stored. Then again try opening and downloading the application from the plays store !! (lightbulb)

Thanks, John. Done that a few times! Also disabled updates as per other advice, but no improvement. In fact things have got even worse - GPlay is now not running at all; just 'Play Store' flashes at top left and the desktop is back in a flash!

I have reinstalled Google Play Store (v4.8.19) from scratch yet it still doesn't download anything :'(

Any suggestions, folks?

Do you have any Adblock Programme installed?
Try backing up all the apps and uninstall them one by one and fire up the Google Play.Try shutting down the device too.If all else fails,try a factory reset.Don't worry,you can reinstall every one of them if you back them up long before.
