Motorola Moto G — new 5.0.2 opens contacts automatically but I don't want that

I recently updated to Android 5.0.2 and now whenever I get into my phone the contacts are opened. However if I'm sending a text or searching online I don't want my contacts open so how do I disable this? The Settings on the contacts page are no use. Any help gratefully received.

I've just found the answer to my query above so thought I would post it for anyone else who's got the same problem - swipe UP to open the phone only, swipe LEFT to open contacts and swipe RIGHT for camera.
