volume of voice in receiving calls.

Problem: When I receive a call, and answer it, I cannot hear the person on the other end. I used too, but it is now very,very faint. I know it isn't my hearing, I had that checked. I can't seem to find the magic button to increase the volume. People hear me fine, but I can't hear them. How do I correct this? thanks.
