Samsung Galaxy S4 mini — Samsung S4 Mini Still ok to use?

I have been given a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini that as far as I can tell and according to the previous user still works perfectly. Considering the age of the device, are there any security or performance issues I should be concerned with if I choose to use this with the Verizon network? If so I may go with the Moto G4 Play.. Thank you

the S4 mini should be fine to use. I still use my S3 it is a year older. I would suggest doing a factory reset to wipe out the other persons data and putting in a new battery. Then it should be ready to rock.
