Ways to Promote Your App

  1. Build a microsite.
  2. Build a teaser website.
  3. Start a blog.
  4. Share your content.
  5. Create a product video.
  6. Get press, tons of it.
  7. Pitch to app review websites.
  8. Contact bloggers who would care and market for us.
  9. Start a podcast.
  10. Always be collecting emails for email marketing.
  11. Post on Pinterest.
  12. Run a contest in social media.
  13. Create a Facebook group.
  14. Be obsessive about resolving negative reviews.
  15. Make good use of App Store Optimization.
  16. Contact admins of related Facebook pages.
  17. Integrate social within the app.

Generally these are all good ideas but there is no true recipe!

How do you go about "collecting emails for email marketing"? This is something I slack on but my new website will have a spot to sign up for alerts.

How has Pinterest worked for you?

  1. Post on Reddit & be active in the community
  2. Use App Annie to get an inside look at your keywords and ASO

For social media Twitter is one great way to get interactions. Try posting a video since users love to view your creations via a video, and add the proper hashtags like #gamedev #indiedev etc

Marketing your app starts long before you ever bring it to market. Before you start telling your development team to start building out your app with a million different things, reach out to your customers and talk to them. After all, you want to make sure that whatever you are building, is going to be just right for them

You can begin to reach out to your customers by first creating list of every single person you have ever sold to and even those who have only signed up to your newsletter. Send them an email and ask them for 5 or 10 minutes of their time.
