The Google Play Store on my phone won't download or update any apps. It started after I Factory Reset my phone today (Note: This isn't the first time I reset my phone but this problem is new). I've cleared the cache and data of both Google Play Store and Services several times apiece, I've factory reset it again, I've refreshed my account twice, restarted my phone twice, I disabled and enabled Google play store and I reset the date twice, but nothing is working.

If Google Play Services need to be updated, It won't update. It does one of two things, says it's "downloading" but stays on the loading part until it times out and "Error Code: 500" comes up or it stays at "Download pending".

This shouldn't be the case. My phone is fairly new, It's Metro PCS's Galaxy On5 and I've only had it for less than 6 months.

Hey, Darth Grant, I read your query, Don't worry about it. While I realize you've tried all possible things to fix the error and nothing seems to work. I'd recommend you try the below steps to fix the issue:

  1. Remove and re-add Google account
    a. Go to Settings.
    b. Scroll down to Accounts (or Account & Sync) and touch Google.
    c. Touch the name of the account to remove.
    d. Touch the menu button (3 dots) and select Remove account.
    e. Repeat this process for all accounts on the device.
  2. Once all accounts have been removed, advise you restart the device and proceed to re-add the accounts:
    a. Go to Settings.
    b. Scroll down to Accounts (or Accounts & Sync).
    c. Touch Add/Plus and then Google.
    d. Touch Existing and sign in with the desired Google account.
  3. Restart your device and check if you're able to download the apps that you've purchased.

Darth
I recently got a notice that google is only updating apps through a wifi signal.
I don't think the factory reset has anything to do with the problem!

Hi guys just want to share my experience.

I have 3 devices with the same problem and I tried to contact Google but they don't support devices Bellow 6.0.0 mine is 5.0.1.

After a factory reset my Google store and Google apps is not updating and m getting an error 504.

I tried all the above steps but nothing worked exept only 1 device out of 3 and this is what I did.

1- shut down the tablet then press power and up until you get debug mood
2- clear cash memory.
3- do a full data wipe ( your data will be gone)
4- I did I root checkup ( I don't know if this is have anything to do with it)

After that my tablet restarted and after the normal setup the play store updated some how along with other Google apps.

I tried the same method n my other 2 tablets but it didn't work.

Try it and let's keep updated.

When you did the factory reset you return your play store back to the original version that was in the phone.
Google may have stopped support of that version.
Go on the internet, see if you can find the latest version of play store and install it.
Let me know if it works.

I found that if I uninstalled the play store app update it would work and update my other apps. Once the play store app updates I am back to the same issue. Seems to me that it is the updated app that is causing the problem.

Simply refresh your Google account and try it again. I also faced this issue and when I removed and re-adds Google Account, it works for me.

everything you need to go is inside setting. you either has not provided the access to the store or have disabled the auto updating system of your chplay. if you can find or dont want to know. you can go to apknite to download the update manually

It was some times bit difficult to do the things on upgrade inside play store as it was not that easy to use.

After a many unsuccessful factory resets / Play Store cache deletions I can confirm that killing the Google app works. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 on Verizon and this fixed the issue. Here were my steps:

1) Stop current / pending downloads in Google Play Store

2) Disable Google App

3) Clear cache / data for Google Play Store

4) Restart device (for good measure)

5) Resume updating apps (once they show up again in the store, downloading a new app may trigger this)

6) Re-enable Google app (I was able to do this without recreating the problem)

Good luck!
