I heard the same thing on the TV news!
Can't remember exactly why, but I think the reason had to do with what Google was doing with it!
Evidently a lot of people were unhappy with Google about it!
I'll see if I can find out the reason and get back to you!

Google is shutting down Google+ because it got hacked and a lot of user data was exposed (stolen).
It's probably for sale on the Dark Web by now!
Glad I didn't participate in that app!

Maybe yes. That's why I'm more often on my account and I see who else has written something, and I'm trying to save as much documentary material as possible.

Yes, Google+ will be shutting down as a result of a data breach and low consumer adoption. Google did not announce an exact date for the shut down until today.
An official date has been set for the shut down of Google+, which will now occur on April 2nd, 2019.
