screen jumps around when talking on phone

Unlike my previous Samsung (Note 4), the screen does not go dark when talking on the phone, and any little movement makes the screen jump around. I used to trigger airplane mode, causing the call to disconnect, but I moved that button in the settings, so it doesn't do that anymore, but still annoying....any idea how to make the screen turn off while holding the phone to face?
