Problem with storage on memory card

I own a Hyve Storm ST-01 Model mobile handset with OS android version 5.1 security update 01 January 2016 which is 4 G capable and holds 2 nano sim cards and has a dedicated slot for micro SD card up to 64 GB. Internal phone memory is 16 GB only. I am using both the sims.

My problem is that even though the phone is reading the micro SD card of 8 GB Sandisk that I inserted into the dedicated slot and I have also marked the default write disk option as SD card the phone seems to be storing everything in the internal hard disk. Now I have only 1.2 GB memory left while SD card is virtually empty and shows available space as 7.10 GB.

So how to rectify this and make the apps write to the SD card instead of phone memory. I use whats app and messaging a lot and also have huge contact list. I am also using True Caller and although many google apps are installed I don't use any except Amazon etc for online shopping. I also use a call recorder which occupies a lot of memory because I need to record my calls.
Can some one out there help me please.

In 'Settings - Memory & storage - Storage Settings', have you set 'SD card' as the 'Default location' ?

Download size < 0.15 MB. But also accurate enough, ad-free & free.
The minimalist app available on Play Store: https://goo.gl/ws42fN
