Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (US-version) — Handsfree link not working for texting

I was wondering if anybody has had this issue and was able to resolve it.

I have a samsung s8 plus and a honda cr v 2018. The Nav system uses handsfree link and according to the web site my phone is supposed to be compatible with making, receiving, calls as well as texting and emailing.

My phone pairs up with no problems with the bluetooth and I'm able to make and receive calls however the text feature is not working.

I've paired and unpaired to no avail. I'm with Verizon and use verizon message+ and it automatically goes into driving mode when it's paired but I get no messages through the bluetooth feature.
