How to verify your WhatsApp account

Hello, I am currently out of my country as such do not have access to my mobile phone number. I've recently switched phone and would like to transfer my WhatsApp account to my new phone. Is there a way to verify your account on your new phone while you don't have access to whatever verification codes that might be sent?

Is WhatsApp still active and accessible on the old phone? If so, simply change your phone number to the new one through WhatsApp's settings, backup your chats and activate WhatsApp on the new phone with the new number and restore the backup.

I feel that if you can't access any verification code, you can't verify your account on your new phone. This is also the setting for account security of the replacement of your device.
